Park Walk

park walk
I'm still playing catch up posting some pictures from last weekend. After a day of baking and tea drinking I took Lua out for a walk in the park. The park is 231 acres of dog friendly nature goodness. Of course they have to be leashed, but Lua's pretty good at sitting still when I ask her too. I just had to keep an eye out for other dogs or people coming down the path. The park was pretty quiet on Sunday, I think the gray skies turned people away, but it ended up being the perfect day for an afternoon stroll with the puppy.

I was thinking a bit today about why everyone loves the fall so much. All I've been reading about on the blog front and hearing from my friends is how much they l-o-v-e fall. My love of fall didn't really show face until last year.

Fall meant going back to college. It didn't really mean changing leaves, pumpkin picking, and relaxing evenings with apple cider. It meant fall ball, papers, and the end of summer sun. I always liked fall, I just never really had a chance to take it in and fully enjoy it.

Last year was my first year living full time in Manhattan. I started to really enjoy taking Lua for long walks after work. It was still warm enough that I didn't need a coat and I got to wear my boots while stomping around. The fall was, as they say, beautiful. And the crisp air was just right for brisk walks around the city. So fall and I started to get along much better.

The more I thought about it today, I realized that I've only ever heard women really fawn over the fall. Why do you think that is? Do you think it could have something to do with the variability of fall days, one day is 70 and sunny and the next has that crisp feel in the air and clouds in the sky, and how that could somehow play into our changing emotions (ehem)? Is it purely fashion related? Do we all jump up and down at the idea of being able to wear layers, scarves, and boots? The comfort food?

I'm a little behind on my posts, but I should be all back to date by the end of the week. And just because I can't help myself from saying this, how cute is Lua. I'm going to go give her big hugs now.

i am in l-o-v-e with this outfit. just wanting you to know. that little cross body purse? maybe the cutest and bestest bag ever. those boots? don't even get me started. and you are just lovely. now about your query on fall: i don't know. i have a love/hate relationship with it. i used to think fall was the most wonderful season. then i fell for winter. now i love summer and its sultry days and steamy nights. but i do think fall is spectacular because of the reprieve from soaring temps, the food, the beautiful colors, football(!!!!), the start of the holidays. fall does have a lot going for it. plus, we all love our boots and scarves, right? crap, now i'm getting all romantic about a season i've been dreading. thanks morgan! now i LOVE fall!!!!

I L-O-V-E this outfit! It's so very cute and exactly what I want to be wearing every weekend this fall.

What do I love about fall? Boots. And the changing color of the trees. But mainly that I get to wear boots.

Your dog is crazy adorable, and I love that you rescued her. You seem to have a great life together :o)

I think I love fall so much for two main reasons: the comfort food (as you mentioned) and the comfy yet wonderful clothes involved. I'm a big fan of cardigans, scarves, layers, boots, etc. I am also a big fan of pumpkin anything! Well, I actually don't like old fashioned plain pumpkin pie at all, but I will scarf down a pumpkin muffin, scone, latte, etc. in seconds.

Fall is when you get to layer clothing and drink hot tea outside which becomes a magical experience. Fall is when you can look out your window and watch the leaves fall painting the sky with there orange, red and yellow colors. Fall is the perfect time to wake up early and go talk a walk around the block and really try to become in-touch with nature and see what God has truly blessed us with. Fall is amazing and I love it.
You are such a lovely girl.

First of all, your outfit is so comfy and cute and Lua is adorable!

I do love fall for the reasons you mentioned - the comfort food, the layers (I *love* layering on clothes), the changing weather and colorful leaves. It's also such a relief to not have to deal with hot, sweaty days anymore. But I also feel there's a charged, expectant feeling in the air - that something exciting could happen if you just took the chance. It also feels like a time when everything is new and different. I know it's just everything changing or dying because winter is coming, but I still feel like fall is a chance to change, renew and be inspired.

I never adored fall until I was done with school, too. I'm with you that I was so busy with school that fall didn't signal a comfortable season, but rather a hectic one. I love fall now because of the way the world smells and feels. I'm the most physically comfortable in fall, and I just adore the colors. Oh, and the comfort food. That too. :)

Also, I just ADORE this outfit. Like, absolutely freaking love it.

I want to steal Lua from you. right now. You are right, she is such a poser! I need to start training Hurley to be a better model.
I feel ya on the fall thing. growing up fall always meant going back to school and no more summer so fall=dread. Now Fall just feels too short because winter is right around the corner with freezing cold and a lot of snow.
Oh and that last photo. Did you really NEED to add more adorable-ness??

I'm a fall worshiper. Mostly because it's nostalgic. So many things "kick-off" in the fall: school, fancy parties, holidays, traditions. And I think, in a weird way, while the world kind of dies or goes to sleep around me, it makes me feel more alive--not covered up by the full life of summer. Instead, I'm free to breathe crisp air, wear clothes that make me comfortable, do things that make me the happiest, and remember how awesome it is every single year.

I agree with SarahAnn, fall makes me feel so nostalgic for those carefree fun days as a kid and all the fun this time of year brings.

I love your classic look with hints of vintage!!! Definitely a style I love. Wellie and Pip send kisses to Lua.

Ok so I'm totally starting to think you are the queen of awesome boots... I LOVE these!!

Meanwhile, on the Fall thing - the reason I like fall is because of the fashion and the comfortable temperatures. It's just a pleasant time of year, unlike winter when i'm always freezing or summer when you're always sweating!

I love the casual chic of this outfit, perfect for a walk on a fall day.

I have to say, I love fall mainly because it is still warm but crisp enough that you're not sweating and gross like the summer and actually able to dress with more layers, which I love.

Seriously, Lua's posing always impresses me. Do you take a million shots to get it just right. I have enough trouble trying to get myself in the frame, in focus, and not making a dumb face nevermind getting a dog to do it at the same time! You're impressive. Also, I don't love fall, I mean I like layering and apple picking and other fall things, but I pretty much loathe winter. As far as I'm concerned fall means that winter is on it's way and that makes me cranky. Plus, I hate pants and fall makes skirts and dresses harder. I need more fun tights!

I feel like Lua is trying to seduce me in that last shot...

I like fall because it's a change from summer. I'm a New England girl, through and through. I love all 4 of my seasons (although I wish winter was only about a month or two.) By the end of every season, I'm always jonesing for the next one. Nothing endures but change. I also am always totally sick of my winter/summer clothing, so that's another incentive. Plus, I work in retail so we're always talking about the next season, and the one after that...

Love the scene around you - I hope you go back there in a few weeks once the leaves are mid-color change.

Oh. Dear.

The last photo of Lua, and the one of you guys both staring to the right- seriously. Seriously?

I want to frame them. And carry them around forever.

I like your theory of fall as female. However, my fella has a big mushy spot for Fall as well. We both patiently await it all year.

I guess I'm not 100% sure why exactly I like the Fall so much. I think that much of it is pretty deeply rooted in my childhood. The smells meant so much to me, and I really did (and do) love Halloween so much as a kid. It was more than a day. It was almost the entire Fall Season that it would be planned- then there was costume making- my mom was an incredibly crafty lady who would always ALWAYS make my costumes. Then, pumpkin carving, spices, haunted houses. So much. So, so much.

And it's like an accelerated lifetime that you get to witness over the course of just a few months. You see the end of Summer greenery, into Autumn reds and oranges and ochers, and then the beginning of Winter's whites and greys. It truly is phenomenal to me.

Am I still rambling about that?

Yep. Sorry. You ask for the beans, and I will surely spill them everywhere.

My fall love comes from the copious quantities of pumpkin (my fave), "sweater weather", gorgey colors, and crunchy leaves under my boots.

However, it does make me a bit sad. Winter is coming - blech.

You look amazingly comfy. Love your boots.

I've also wondered about why people fawn over fall as well. I think I always associate "back to school" shopping with fall, so that's why I'm excited about fall clothing. lol.

My favorite season is summer though.

There is so much I love about this post. First, your outfit is just so adorable, perfect for a laid back afternoon walk. Also, Lua looking at the camera and saying hi :) And finally your sentiment about Fall. I've been out of school for 4 years now so I get excited about the way the air smells, wearing scarves, and the best holidays of the year. I think my husband likes it because of the food and all the stuff to do, but he definitely doesn't verbalize that as often.

speaking of l-o-v-e, let's add your boots to the list. they're perfection!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons because of everything that comes with it, like someone mentioned earlier new school year (I love school supply shopping because i'm a dork haha), learning new things, everything around me seems to get cozier than usual! Granted my favorite month is december but thats for a whole bunch of other reasons! Most of the guys i've ever met never really pay too much mind to the season aside from the random complaints about it being really hot or cold out. Then again this might be different for guys who are more into fashion? My guys friends basically wear their usual clothing with a sweater or coat on top.

Fall is my jam. It's the absolute best time of year. It's the most colorful, flavorful, aromaful. My husband actually loves fall the most of all seasons. He loves the temperatures (he runs hotter than most) and he's a nut for college football. Fall Saturdays are a favorite in the McBride household.

That little bag is perfection. It is the perfect color and size.
