Scenes from a Weekend : II

weekend 10.3
After a very fulfilling weekend in Madison I spent this last one catching up on some things. One of those things was still needing to unpack. I managed to have a throughly satisfying weekend made complete by one of the most lovely, cold and gray Sunday I've seen in a while.
weekend 10.3
I have been making my own granola for the past two and a half years. I haven't had the opportunity to make it in a while so it was really refreshing to get back to some sort of program. I used rolled oats, coconut, almonds, flax, wheat germ, vegetable oil, honey, and vanilla. When it was done baking I added currants.

The yerba mate I made over the weekend was completely new to me. I have to say it. I'm addicted. The first time I heard about this drink was from a blog I read called Boho Photography. It's much more than what the title would suggest. It's a heartwarming lifestyle blog about one of the most loving families, with splashes of touching personal photography. This is the recipe I followed, Our Sweet Morning Nectar. The only things I did differently was use honey instead of agave nectar and almond milk instead of rice milk. I don't drink coffee too often (only when I'm driving so I don't fall asleep), but I always loved the idea of waking up to a cup of something aromatic, warm, and creamy.  It's the routine and the comfort of it that appeals to me. I think I found my routine.

After some things at home, and my second cup of yerba mate, Lua gave me her best woe-is-me-come-one-lets-go-outside-I'm-bored face. And really, who am I to deny her anything. Especially when she puts on such an irresistible mug. We headed to the park shortly after.
weekend 10.3
Lua was completely satisfied with the trip and was the most helpful photographers assistant. She took on the role of look out while I set up shop and got some outfit pictures done.
weekend 10.3
I hope you all had a great weekend, and maybe even tried something new. Let me know about it if you did! Outfit post coming tomorrow.

I've never heard of yerba mate but I'm intrigued now. My morning routine is so important to me (coffee and computer) but I'm trying to cut back on all the caffeine. Maybe I'll try this! The granola looks yummy, I want some!! :) Glad you had an awesome weekend.

Lua is a freakin cutie. She reminds me of my brat in the last photo with her ears back. Is it attitude or fear? ha Hurley is so scared of my camera.

Yum granola! I make my own too, so easy and way cheaper than the store bought stuff. This is one of my fave recipes :http://sweetersalt.com/2010/07/27/peanut-butter-banana-granola/)

I'm a die-hard coffee gal myself, but I love me some yerba mate, and that recipe sounds divine.

This sounds like such a lovely weekend to yourself. Those kinds of weekends can be so rewarding!

I wish my dog would stand guard for me while I take photos. He would run away if taken off the leash, though!

i've been wanting to make my own granola for ages but just can't seem to get the motivation. this just might do it :) my husband grew up in bolivia where they drink a lot of mate. i've never seen yerba mate steeped like this! we had a certain little holder for it with a weird straw thing. i will warn you against mate de coca though (which is really tasty). he used to drink it a lot at work, then got a promotion. he had a drug test and was found positive for cocaine!!! he almost got fired but after lots more tests, he was found clear and it was only from the tea. anyway, i will def have to try my own granola. looks sooooo good :)
