Scottish Plans

scottish
When I was little I wanted to be Scottish when I grew up. True, I still want to be Scottish now, but then I thought it was something I could become. When I grow up I want to be a professional Scottish person. That was my thought process. I think this phase was after I wanted to be a mind-reading-model and before I wanted to be a zoo keeper. All wonderful profession options in my opinion.

This is my I'm Scottish and I live on an estate with all my dogs, horses, other assorted farm animals and my handsome, rugged, thick accented, Scottish husband outfit. We go for walks on the property every night, eat exclusively from our own garden, and ride our horses to the further reaches of the estate during the day. At night we sit around our large fireplace when the wind starts to whip through the countryside and pull our wool blankets tighter over our shoulders. Every morning we sit at our wide wood plank table and welcome the day by sipping on the tea we grown on our property. It's a pretty amazing life really.

Even the weather on Friday was coordinating with my Scottish fantasy. It was overcast Friday afternoon when I took Lua to the park and then it started to drizzle lightly as I was leaving. Wonderful. When I studied abroad in London I remember never being sad or depressed by the gray weather days. I always liked the weather there. To be fair there were also plenty of days when the sun was shining. I'm not sure if it was the consistency of the gray days or if I'm just ok with that kind of weather, but it seemed so fitting. And I was really happy there. That may have been because of the weather, or the fact that I was twenty, living abroad, and had just started drinking. I'll say all of the above.

I was lucky enough to go to Scotland while I was abroad. I absolutely loved it. I remember how much it really felt like home. I know how exaggerated that sounds, but it's true. The landscape was so familiar to me, and I'd grown up with a lot of Scottish attitudes around me. My grandmother spend time there when my mom was growing up, and I think my mom caught the get me to Scotland bug from her and passed it down to me. I'm actually Scottish on both sides of my family. MacDonald from my mom, and Gordon from my dad's side.

When I was driving out to my parent's on Friday I realized that I had all the makings for a Scottish outfit. I decided it would be as good a time as any to out my childhood dreams of growing up to be Scottish. I won't lie and say that I haven't recently thought about raising children partly abroad so they'd have great accents, but then I'd be jealous of them. That's not a strange sequence of thoughts right?

My Mom's Barbour Jacket, Madewell Ruffle Vest, JCrew Pants, Madewell Socks, Anthropologie Boots
My Dad's Hat from Scotland, Antique Cane from my Parents House, Bag from Portobello Road

So what do you want to be when you grew up? Something strange like a mind-reading-model? Or maybe you wanted to be a doctor and ended up being a something completely different? Let's talk about it. And yes, you can come over to the estate and have tea with us.

totally get the scottish-ness of this. you look great! the weather looks so perfect for this shoot too. since you're a scots fan, have you read the outlander series by diana gabaldon? my favorite books EVER!!!!! seriously, they are so good. it's mostly set in 18th century scotland, although later in the american colonies. there are 7 books in the series so far and i've read them all like 4 times. anyway, i will totally go visit you on your estate! but instead of tea, can i have some single malt scotch? thanks :)

Cute outfit. My husband is half Scottish, I hope we can get to Scotland sometime in the near future! I want to find his long lost relatives.

Adorable outfit! I love wearing scally caps, they always remind me of my Grampa, who would wear them with a "Grandpa" sweater. Such a cozy look.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a gypsy or a professional tooth brusher. Clearly there is a lot of money in both of these fields, so I'm regretting going down the marketing path ;)

This outfit couldn't be more scottish if you tried, well aside from adding a kilt. I studied abroad in England over a year ago, by Liverpool and loved every minute of it. When I went up to Scotland I loved it even more haha, its a bit drearier than England but I didn't really mind it. Hell I loved it so much that I am currently in the process of applying to grad schools over in Glasgow.
As far as what I wanted to be when I got older? I had an obsession with England and loved everything about it even though I had never been there, and loved cooking. So naturally I wanted to be a chef for the queen!

Love this outfit. Before I started reading I actually thought you were visiting Scotland! Definitely has the vibe.

I wanted to be an traveling writer-artist-acrobat. Now, I'm afraid of heights.

My original hypothetical dream guy was a Korean-Scot. Scottish accents are my favorite.

haha i love this! it sounds like we had very similar study abroad experiences (except mine was in dublin instead of in london, but i loved my visit to scotland!), and i'm very irish (instead of scottish)--my dad is a pureblood irishman and my mother's father was the same. anyway, i adore this outfit--and i'd totally believe that you took these photos on a scottish estate :)

when i was little i wanted to be a dentist ballerina! why a dentist, i will never understand :) we had (have!) such great imaginations!

I love the Scottish fantasy. I went to Ireland and I know its not the same but I think about my trip almost on a daily basis. Great outfit. I hope all your Scottish type dreams come true.

LOVE this outfit. I think it's completely normal to choose not to raise your children in another country because you would be jealous of their accents.

Also, can you help me convince The Husband that going to Ireland would be worth every penny? kthnx.

Love this post! Your Scottish outfit is awesome.

When I was little I wanted to be an artist. My brother wanted to be a racoon! haha. Every time he would say "When I grow up I'm going to be a racoon" I would get so angry and tell him he can't be an animal. He would just tell me, "dad says I can be whatever I want to be." lol.

Love the outfit! I've always wanted an accent myself. Well, a non-American accent.

These photos just give me the itch to travel!!!

Morgan, I love this so much!
I've never been abroad but it's in my list of things to do. I would love to go live in england or better yet scotland (gasp!) for a year... or a lifetime. The whole thing just appeals to me so much.
It would be amazing. I definitely have the longing for Scotland bug too. However for me, it came more from books (i am so impressionable - it's ridiculous)
