Scenes from a Weekend : VIII

wkndVIII
I filled this past weekend with Christmas shopping, baking, running errands, and huddling in the house with tea. I didn't realize until I went through my pictures that only one was taken outside. I did leave the house, I just didn't think shopping at the holiday crowded mall was particularly picturesque. I spent the weekend at my parent's house so Lua could stretch her legs in the backyard and I could take advantage of their kitchen.

First thing I had to take care of was baking a new batch of granola for the week. Then out for an appointment and some grocery shopping at Trader Joe's. I had every intention of trying my hand at bread from scratch this weekend, but Trader Joe's didn't have any yeast and I was too lazy to stop at a different store. Instead I picked up some very adorable Gingerbread Men and other odds and ends.

On Saturday I helped around the house with a few Christmas decorations. Most had already been put up so I basically walked around and took pictures until it was time to go Christmas shopping. My Mom and I went to the mall in the afternoon. I decided I really don't like shopping in big places. It's overwhelming and I get lost. Not physically (although once when I was little I told my mom that I could see with my eyes shut -magical powers- and wandered off bumping into a group of old ladies only to be surprised when I opened my eyes and they were not my Mom, but that is neither here nor there) but mentally. I loose track of what I'm supposed to be doing and get really frustrated that there is just so much stuff. I made a beeline for the two stores I knew I needed to stop at, Madewell and Williams-Sonoma. After those necessary stops and a quick run to a local food market, we headed home to the puppies. Then my Mom offered to drop my boots off with the cobbler, they were in need of a tune up.

Sunday started off lovely with a bowl of my homemade granola and some Ina in the background. I reluctantly left the house to run some errands. Then home again and time to bake my most recent staple chocolate chip cookie recipe. They include coconut, dark chocolate, and are portioned out by 1/4 cup full. I didn't have any brown sugar on hand so I made some by adding molasses to regular white sugar. They turned out quite alright. It always surprises me how one night I can bake several different things then these cookies took a few hours! What the heck sort of dilly dallying was I doing?

It was a slow weekend that went by rather quickly. By the time I got home each day it was already to dark to venture out for outfit pictures, so those will have to wait for this coming weekend. I also spent a lot of time searching around Etsy for gifts and gift inspiration. I think I have something for everyone almost picked out, now it's just a matter of committing. I'm a natural born procrastinator so that's always the hardest part for me. How did your weekends go? Anyone closing in on perfect gift ideas?

I realized today that I haven't mentioned my Tumblr on this blog very often. I post / re-blog almost daily. It ranges from outfits, to food, to interior design, to extra pictures from this blog and everything in between. Mostly it exists as a place to keep images I want to remember. In honor of this date in history I re-blogged a few pictures of John Lennon. And I can't say anything more about that because there is just too much to say.

ahh your weekends always sound so lovely and the pictures are so great! I love Harney & Sons tea, the actual store is about 30 minutes from where I live. I met Mr. Harney at a party they had there once! haha Random, I know. It's great though, they have tea tasting-you sit at a bar and can try different teas-kinda like wine tasting!

You make your own granola? Wow! I made cookies this week for gifts... are you proud of me?
And the shearling jacket is awesome! I also love vintage stuff, not because it is in style but because no one else has what I have. Snob=me.
Oh ya... and speaking of special inheritances, I just got a chandalier/big light fixture from the parents from my Oma in Holland! So freaking cool!

I am totally with you on malls. I used to LOVE malls as a teenager. My friend and I would go every weekend, shopping with the little bit of pocket money we had. Now, I go crazy. I went last Saturday and about lost my mind. Ugh, it was awful. So crowded and gross. I much prefer small shops, and only occasionally ducking into the mall when I need to go to specific stores.

What a fantastic weekend. I was alone last weekend as The Husband left for North Carolina to be with his family. I had to work Saturday morning but then I was home free. Solo lunch with my book at Piper's Pub (YOU WOULD LOVE THIS PLACE) then to I Made It Market (YOU WOULD LOVE THAT EVENT). I too got some holiday decorations and decked our halls a bit. This weekend we're finally getting and trimming our tree. Can't wait!

PS: I love Ina Garten. I told a pal of mine that she is one of the sexiest women on tv. When he first saw her he laughed at me. Then he watched the show. He was in love.
