Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Saturday Kev and I went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden! I’m so glad we did, because it was the perfect time of year to go. Everything was in full bloom.
We met up with a couple of friends for Brunch, more like a late lunch though, at a place called Good in the West Village. It was, good.
Kev had been feeling under the weather all week and actually didn’t even go into work until Thursday. Then Friday he had to hop on a bus for 5 hours and come up to NYC! He was a little shaky so we just relaxed Friday night.
Saturday after brunch Kev was still a bit off, but he decided to be a trooper and we took the trek into Brooklyn to look at some pretty flowers and glorious trees.
There were so many tourists there. And to be honest I was a little surprised. For some reason I wasn’t expecting it to be that big of a tourist stop. Wrong. There were also crowds of very artsy younger people wandering around, and a scattering of families. All those elements add up to plenty of ridiculous cameras! There were things I’d never seen or heard of before and the zoom lenses must have been as long as my arm. My camera felt mousy and out of place. Eeek!
It was a great place to spend a sunny Saturday and just wander around for a couple hours. The greenhouses were really interesting because you could immediately feel the different temperatures and humidity levels that the plants felt at home in. I kept waiting for monkeys to hop down from the trees in the tropical greenhouse! No such luck. Just some turtles and koi in the pond.

If I had known more about the set up of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and if Kev wasn’t being a sick-o I would have brought a blanket and laid there and talked about life haha. You’re not allowed to eat outside of the designated eating areas, so we’d just be talking and people watching and soaking up the sun. Kev would be burnt (redhead) and I would be sun kissed.
Kevs throat was starting to ache after a while so we decided to scoot out of there. We had to stop at the Ice Cream truck to get him an ice pop, haha. Stinks being sick, but you get to eat oodles of ice pops!
In honesty I think this outfit put me in a funk all day. I was raiding my closet desperately trying to find the pieces I wanted but didn’t own. The weather was throwing me for a loop too. It was actually a little cold! Not full on jacket, but I needed something, and I didn’t have it.
Something you learn about New York is that if you’re out walking and you get a little chilly, you just cross the street and you’re in full on sun. The buildings create all sorts of shadows and wind tunnels. So I was cold one block, and hot the next.
I have to say something here about my stature. I am not short. Kev just happens to be much taller than me and I think he gets a kick out of taking pictures that make me look like a tiny human being. I am actually 5’7”. And get this. I grew one inch after college. No joke and no idea how that happened or if it’s even medically possible. Facts are facts people.

Is everyone enjoying this spring bloom? I sure hope so. It’s energizing! Woo!
