Sunshine Girl

Kev and I spent all day Sunday at the beach! It was my first official swimsuit day at the beach. I was a little hesitant, as any girl might be, especially since it was an old suit that's a little on the small side. I need a new one with a different shape, that's for sure. It wasn't only the suit that had me a little worried. It was the fact that I was nearly as white as I get. Some people can pull off the fair skin look, (like the one I'm going to mention below) I am not one of those people. I need a little sunshine. It's a personal decision. I think my hodgepodge of heritages confuses my skin tone.
I understand the backlash of loving some sun. My parent's spent a significant amount of time in Hawaii when they started dating and since sunscreen didn't exactly exist then, I'm very aware of what damage the sun can do. I wear sunscreen now and I annoying remind Kevin every half hour that he has to reapply. Stinking redhead.
This is the second way I chose to wear the vintage scarf I mentioned in yesterday's post. I've been thinking of ways to style/deal with my bangs this summer. I really want to keep them, but it's already getting really hot under there. Not to mention I'd like to avoid getting a bang tan. So voila, scarf on head to keep bangs in check at the beach. I'm trying to channel some 60's beach here. Just a little.
Don't mind my pink burnt skin tone. I wore sunscreen! I promise. It's an adjustment phase.
I got this dress and tote from the O Captain Etsy shop. Its run by the lovely Maria of Lulu Letty who coincidentally was just featured as Modcloth's Blogger of the Moment today! She completely deserves it and as you can see she not only is incredibly talented at dressing herself, but also has a knack for picking out great finds for others! Make sure you check out her vintage shop and blog. If you haven't heard of her yet I don't know what rock you've been living under, but it's time to come out.
Sucre Sunglasses
Vintage Scarf from Beacon's Closet, Vintage 60's Belt from my mom
Green Shell Earrings from market in Australia, Anchor Tote bag from O Captain
Yellow Sundress from O Captain, Vintage Canvas Grasshopper Wedges from Little Ocean Annie

I'm really happy to say that this outfit is almost completely vintage or handmade! (Sunglasses are borderline.)
I wore this dress more than once this weekend. And believe me I wasn't happy when it was time to pack it up. Throughout both days I wore it I kept dressing it up and down depending on what Kev and I were doing, beach, walk through town, dinner on the porch. Add a chambray shirt, change the belt, sandals, were a few of the pieces I switched around with it. Maria was nice to even offer up a few styling suggestions to me before the dress arrived. I knew I wanted to wear it for the weekend at the beach, it came down to a matter of timing since I had only decided to purchase it a few days before! It showed up lickity-split in my mailbox and I was good to go.
Kev and I spent our days this past weekend between the beach, the back porch, and watching movies in bed. Great relaxing weekend to start off the summer.

Is everyone else happily settling into the summer?
