At the Dock

Hey there. This weekend has been a doozy. Kev and I skipped seeing each other because he had to work Saturday and Sunday and that would have been no fun for me to sit around in Maryland alone while he worked away. It ended up being ok because Lua got really sick on Wednesday and I had to make an as immediate as possible vet appointment Thursday morning. I won't get into the gory details, but I'll say that there were fluids involved. Ok, that's enough.
I ended up having to drop Lua off at the vet for the day to get an IV, x-rays, blood tests, the works. If you're thinking of adopting or getting a pet, just keep in mind they aren't cheap. I always have to make sure I have enough money in my bank account to cover the cost of possible vets bills. When I volunteered at the shelter I adopted Lua from that was a big reason people returned their animals. They didn't realize how expensive it would be and they simply couldn't afford it. It was always sad to see.
In this case it ended up costing me about a month's rent. Most vets don't take the animal insurance thats out there, so they really hit you hard when it comes to billing.
That was Thursday. Then there was Friday. I usually have Fridays off in the summer. Our work gets quiet and it gives me the extra day to drive to Maryland or where ever I'm headed for the weekend. I promise I do live in the city though. It's just not necessarily the place I want to spend my hot summer weekends. Friday I hopped in the car again and headed out. This is a close second to where I said my favorite place was.
It's a big park on the water. There are trails that head off into the woods and a rocky beach line. The water off the dock is actually extremely deep because they had to dig it out for the submarines that used to dock there. I also know that its deep because my friends and Kev did back-flips and had all sorts of jumping fun off the railing into the water below. Not I cherry pie. I'm slightly afraid of heights. I think it's more that I'm scared I'm going to drop something. I was very careful about rolling up my bag and placing it directly on a plank and not a crack. I have a similar fear with putting my arms out of car windows. I'm always afraid something, like a ring or bracelet is just going to fly off.
Lua and I took a very restricted walk around. I didn't want to over excite her on account of her being on a whole bunch of medicine, homeopathic remedies, and generally being a sicko. I wanted to let her stretch her legs, get some fresh air, and be the lookout while I took some pictures. I did get alot of Lua glamour shots though. She's such a good poser.
I'd say the best way to score free clothes is to have a mom who buys cool things, is approximately the same size as you, and often leaves her closet unattended. Blue pants and Scarf are both from my mom. She has a lot of good stuff.
The end product of this outfit feels very nautical to me. I ended up almost matching where I was headed. I don't mind that though. It's ok to be subtle and blend in sometimes. Even though I'm wearing moccasins, I think they'd pull their weight as boat shoes. The soles certainly wouldn't scuff up the deck of anyones ship. Thinking of that, I could go for a nice long sail right about now. Who's coming with?
I really like this picture of Lua. I know she has an intimidating look to many people but I think she looks sweet and almost regal here. ha. You can see the areas on her legs where they had to shave to draw blood and put the IV. She's getting better already. It's funny with dogs. A lot of the times they don't even know they're sick. They run around and play like nothings wrong. That's certainly the case with Lua.
Sucre Sunglasses, Anthropologie Sweater, Madewell Top, Modcloth Belt, Minnetonka Moccasins from DSW
Vintage Scarf from my mom's closet, Blue Pants from my mom's closet
Anchor Tote from O Captain Shop

I'm really excited about the next outfit in the line up. It took a lot of restraint not to jump the line and post it first! Hang tight for those pictures.

As you can see I'm having some technical difficulties right now. I have about six emails out to different sites about all the problems I'm encountering and I googled the heck out of 'how to' questions. If you're looking for followers, previous posts, twitter updates, or my formspring they'll be on the right side at the bottom of the page for the time being. Hopefully I'll get really smart really quick and be able to figure everything out in no time. Fingers crossed!
If you have the solution to this problem please, please tell me!
